This Week’s Raz Challenge: Finish Something!

This week’s challenge is deceptively simple. So simple, in fact, that we’re not even providing you with any resources and suggestions for completing it. That’s because this week’s challenge is intensely personal. It’s going to mean something completely different to every adventurer who undertakes it.

This week, Raz challenges you to finish something.

There is a task, or even a quest, that you are on the cusp of completing. Maybe it’s something very small that you’ve just been putting off completing. Maybe it’s something big that requires one last push. Or maybe it’s something you haven’t even started, for whatever reason—a lack of deadline, fear of the unknown—that’s just sitting there in your Quest Log, waiting.

Finish it. Break it down into simple steps, and finish it. Put aside your excuses*, and finish it. You can do this. You WILL do this. And when it’s done, the trumpets will sound your triumph!

(*Note: “excuses” are different than “reasons”. If you haven’t finished building that grandfather clock you’ve been working on because you have a broken arm, maybe pick something different to finish for this week’s challenge.)

What are you going to finish this week? Share your quests on Twitter or Facebook!

What’s your New Year’s Quest?

The end of another year is upon us; it is a time for all adventurers to reflect on the past as we look towards the future. Over the course of the coming year, what do you hope to accomplish? What challenges do you want to overcome? What terrible beasts do you wish to slay?

This week, Raz challenges you to set yourself, not a boring, ordinary New Year’s Resolution, but a fabulous, fantastic, EPIC New Year’s Quest! (Also acceptable: “Razolution.”) Remember to be good to yourself: you are GREAT, and nothing about you needs to be fixed! Rather, this is a chance for you to get more points in various skills/abilities and LEVEL UP your own awesome.

Only YOU can decide what form your New Year’s Quest will take. We will say that here at caHQ, we’re fans of the concrete goal: a quest with a specific, tangible, measurable condition for success. For example, “try one new reasonably healthy recipe a week” is a lot easier to act on than “eat healthier”. But again, you get to decide what a NYQ means for you!

Here are a few ideas for potential NYQs:

  • Get into a new daily or weekly habit. (Floss! Make your bed! Write 500 words! Ride your bike! Tidy your workspace! Craft because it makes you feel good!)
  • Undertake/complete a big project. (Write a novel! Move to a better living situation! Start a garden! Digitize your grandmother’s photos!)
  • Acquire a new skill. (Join a roller derby team! Learn to cook for yourself! Become a boss at knitting!)
  • Give back. (Volunteer your time! Set aside a small part of your income to donate to interesting Kickstarter projects! Organize a bake sale to raise money for a local charity! Bake a pie to support somebody else’s bake sale)

This Week’s Raz Challenge: Eat Breakfast Every Day for a Week!

They say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. And you know what? They are absolutely correct. Without breakfast, who has the energy to do battle with terrifying beasties? The brainpower to solve devious puzzles? The strength to endure the most harrowing tasks?

Not only that, but taking the time to eat breakfast in the morning is a fabulous way to get yourself in an adventuring mindset. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy—although if you want to take the chance to get some #cookery or #fancypantsamancy points, BY ALL MEANS—it just has to be food. Cereal! Pancakes! Eggs! Frozen, frosted pastries you put in the toaster! Leftover pizza! All of it tops off your HP and helps you get in FIGHTING TRIM. That’s why this week, Raz challenges you to carve out the time EVERY DAY to make breakfast a part of your morning routine.

Raz is Back, Baby!

As you may have noticed, the Raz Challenge took a bit of a break these past few weeks (but challenged you to do the same!) During that time, we asked you guys for your feedback about the Challenge, and we’ve spent the past two months using the myriad of thoughtful responses we gathered to improve the Raz Challenge going forward.

The wait is over, adventurers! The Raz Challenge is back, with a few changes that will make it even more awesome.

  • One-Week AND Two-Week Challenges: Feedback was split on whether or not challenges should run for a week or a fortnight. Now, challenges will run for EITHER one or two weeks, depending on their difficulty.
  • Multi-Platform Announcements: We will announce, as well as post reminders about, each challenge on Twitter, Tumblr, and Facebook. Eventually, we’re going to add the Raz Challenge to the site’s frontpage, so you’ll see it every time you visit!
  • Coming Soon: Flash Challenges! If you follow us on twitter, you may have already undertaken a flash challenge. These are bite-sized, more direct challenges: some examples include “Send that email you’ve been putting off!” and “Clean out the nearest drawer!” We’re going to continue to issue these challenges via Twitter and Tumblr, but soon they’ll also have a home on the site itself.

We are also working on rewards for completing a given Challenge within the set time-frame, so keep your eyes peeled for that!
